A pleasant walk through the Castle Eden Dene Nature Reserve, the largest area of natural woodland in north-east England, renowned for yew trees.
This walk takes you on a circuit of the dene, starting close to Oakerside Dene Lodge. The walk heads west towards Gunner's Pool Bridge with its impressive gorge below.
Now on the southern banks of the dene, the walk climbs high up the banks to follow close to the dene's boundary, past the castle, eventually to reach close to the Garden of Eden bridge.
Turning west again, the walk returns to the start point, this time mainly following the dene's floor.
This is an excellent walk at all times of the year - but is particularly spectacular in autumn.
